This is a fragment of the original story that started this whole forum. I will not give all of my story, for copyright reasons.
21st July 1940
It was really early in the morning, and guards were up, and ready to patrol the island. They seemed to take shifts, so I waited ten minutes before another one took over. This gave me a few seconds to run from street to street. The guards keep coming and going, but not as frequently as last night.
I walked over to the beach nearest to the docks. My house was only about a twenty-minute walk to the beach. There were a few scrubs near the edge of the beach, so I could hide among them. I looked ahead for a second. There were three men, laughing with each other. I smiled; I hadn’t seen laughter for weeks. I moved silently through the shrubs and the smooth, soft sand beneath my shoes began to harden, becoming hard gravel. These gravel then got harder and looser, and it became to move without the rocks falling. The three men were still enjoying themselves, and they were getting closer. I heard something else though, like someone was following me. Suddenly, a hissing sound startled me and a few rocks fell from beneath my feet and rolled with a thump onto the sand below. I froze. The men became silent. I was so still, it was almost as if I could hear my own heart beating wildly. The men began to walk up the hill, with torches shining brightly. One of the guards came closer to me. Just then, a tabby cat jumped out of the shrubs and meowed curiously. I almost fell over with relief.
“Keine Sorge, es war nur kleine Katze!” one of the guards yelled out. They all laughed and began stroking the cat. That was when I realized something. What had been missing for weeks? When I got Phoebe, I bought a bright blue collar for her. This tabby cat had a blue, dirty collar. The cat they were stroking was Phoebe! She was probably following me, maybe for some food. Luckily, she was on my side.
Hope you liked it! ;D
